The most common combination skin consists of normal to dry displaying dry skin over the cheeks and at the side of our face, with a greasier T-Zone down the centre panel. However any combination of skin types may exist on the face where different areas show different physical characteristics.
The sebaceous glands in your T-zone are more active than the rest of your face, making it appear greasy and shiny. Often when the T-zone becomes greasy it becomes more tempting to squeeze spots as they begin to appear. It is important to avoid doing this, when we begin to cause trauma to the surface to the skin our body automatically places itself into survival mode. Within the T-zone triangle from top of nose to bottom lip are lots of important blood vessels. It is strongly advised that you don’t disturb them as it can result in bacterial infections occurring behind the triangle causing sever skin damage.
Why do I have combination skin?
Unfortunately, if one or more of your family members have combination skin, you are likely to have it too. Genetics play a major role in determining our skin type.
When choosing products to apply to the skin what may work for one area may not apply to the whole face and sometimes the products we use can cause drying. It is important to not over use products containing lots of acids to compliment one condition because over use of harsh products can cause the skin to break-down your skins barrier, resulting in necessary oils and moisture the skin requires being lost.
