Toners

Toners can be a divisive topic – even among skincare professionals – but they are increasingly regarded as a legitimate step within many skincare regimes. Certainly, toners have evolved from the highly astringent formulas of yesteryear. Modern incarnations play more of a conditioning role, to leave your complexion looking and feeling refreshed. A good toner helps to reset your skin’s balance, and helps to keep it soft and smooth. Many of today’s toners are multitasking formulations that combine a number of different functions, to enhance texture and tone. For example, some exfoliate, while others hydrate. Certain formulations are anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory too.

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN A TONER?

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN A TONER?
  • "Different types of toners are designed to do different things, for example, they freshen, exfoliate or return the skin to the right pH before other products are applied. But in general terms, a toner should balance the skin after cleansing, and help to prep it for the application and absorption of subsequent topical products. Use after cleansing, and before serum/moisturiser application."
