Exfoliators

Put simply, exfoliation is the process of removing dead cells from the surface of your skin. This helps to clear and brighten your complexion, and also allows subsequent topical treatments to work more effectively. There are two main types of exfoliation: physical and chemical. Physical exfoliants, such as scrubs, remove dead cells through friction. They are not generally recommended for anyone prone to redness or broken capillaries. Chemical exfoliators break down the bonds between skin cells, so they are shed more easily. Common examples include glycolic and salicylic acids.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I USE AN EXFOLIATOR?
  • "There’s no one correct answer to this question, because everybody’s skin is unique, with different needs. But a really common mistake is over-exfoliation, which can cause irritation and inflammation. A little is good – a lot is not! As a general guide, once a week should work well for sensitive skin; 2-3 times for normal/oily/combination. For best results exfoliate at night."
